EXO is one of the most famous, successful, and influential K-pop boy groups in South Korea. Formed by SM Entertainment, the group officially debuted on April 8, 2012. EXO originally consisted of twelve members, but following the departure of three members, the group became widely recognized as a nine-member act consisting of Suho, Xiumin, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun. The name EXO is derived from the word Exoplanet, which refers to a planet located outside our solar system. This concept played an important role in the group's original identity, as each member was introduced with a fictional supernatural ability, creating a unique universe that distinguished EXO from other K-pop groups. At the beginning of their career, EXO was divided into two subunits, EXO-K and EXO-M, with EXO-K primarily performing in Korean and EXO-M focusing on Chinese-language releases. This strategy allowed the group to reach audiences in both South Korea and China, helping establish an international fanbase early in their career. EXO quickly gained recognition for their powerful vocals, impressive choreography, captivating stage performances, and ability to explore different musical styles. Their major breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of "Growl," which became a massive hit and helped establish them as one of the leading groups of K-pop's third generation. Over the following years, EXO continued to achieve remarkable success with popular songs such as "Overdose," "Call Me Baby," "Love Me Right," "Monster," "Lotto," "Ko Ko Bop," "Power," "Tempo," "Love Shot," and "Cream Soda."

Their albums achieved millions of sales, earning them numerous awards and recognition at major Korean music ceremonies. EXO also played an important role in expanding the global popularity of K-pop, particularly throughout Asia, where they developed an enormous and dedicated fanbase. Their official fandom is known as EXO-L, a name that symbolizes the connection between EXO and their supporters. Beyond their activities as a group, many members have successfully established individual careers in music, acting, television, and entertainment. Members such as Baekhyun, Kai, D.O., Chen, and Suho have released solo music, while others have pursued acting, modeling, and various creative projects. Throughout their career, EXO has experienced periods of reduced group activity due to mandatory military service, contractual arrangements, and individual schedules. Nevertheless, their legacy remains significant, and they continue to be recognized as one of the most important groups in K-pop history. With their distinctive musical identity, outstanding vocal abilities, memorable performances, and lasting influence on the industry, EXO has secured its place as one of the defining boy groups of the third generation of K-pop, inspiring countless artists and attracting fans around the world.
